Itanagar, Aug 22: On the occasion of World Senior Citizen’s Day which is observed annually on August 21, the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) conducted a webinar under the banner “Observance of World Senior Citizens Day and Legal Awareness–Cum-Training on Drug Abuse” for the Legal Aid Counsels and NGO members from across all districts of the state.
Former Judge, Himachal Pradesh Judicial Service and Retired Principal Secretary (Law)-cum-Legal Remembrancer to Government of Himachal Pradesh Dr. J.N Barowalia was the chief guest who spoke about the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act, 1985. Consultant Psychologist from Kolkata Elizabeth V. Koshy spoke on the topic “Overcoming Mental Health Issues for Legal Professionals & Front-Line Workers” and trained the participants on dealing with stress and depression during Covid-19 pandemic. Meditation Trainer-cum-Hypnotherapist from Kolkata Arup Ghosh focussed on the role of alternate medicine in fighting drug addiction. Project Director, SACS, Department of Health Services Arunachal Pradesh Dr. Riken Rina sensitized the participants on the ground realities of drug abuse in the state and shared his experience in combating the menace at grassroots level. To mark the day, a segment of the webinar covered the NALSA (Legal Services to the Senior Citizens) Scheme, 2015 which was conducted by Legal Aid Counsel-APSLSA, Advocate Nani Modi.
