Itanagar, Jun 12: In view of the rising number of domestic violence cases in the country during the lockdown, Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) in collaboration with Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI), an international NGO based at New Delhi organized a two-day ‘Virtual Training Programme cum Refresher Course for Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs)’ of various districts of the state on June 11 & 12.
The online training was hosted here from the APSLSA office wherein Member Secretary, APSLSA Jaweplu Chai appreciated the enthusiasm & determination of the participants. CHRI Resource Persons took the sessions from West Bengal and New Delhi. On the first day of the training, APSLSA Resource Person Advocate Jungam Jini of the Itanagar Bench of Gauhati High Court spoke on the issues related to the Protection of Women & Domestic Violence Act and the role of PLVs in tackling such cases which was followed by sessions on POCSO Act 2012 and Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 by the Project Consultant for APSLSA Advocate Marie Riba where she discussed the legal aspects and gave a scientific analysis of the victims’ mental trauma.
On the second day, APSLSA collaborated with CHRI wherein its Sr. Programme Officer for Prison Reforms Programmes Amrita Paul threw light on the aspects of criminal proceedings. Sr. Research and Advocacy Officer for Police Reforms Programme at CHRI, Raja Bagga spoke on the functioning of police stations and the role of PLVs at Prison Legal Aid Clinics.
Q&A session between the PLVs and Resource Persons at the end of the training cleared various doubts faced by the participants. OSD, APSLSA Dani Belo also spoke on the occasion. APSLSA PR
