Itanagar, Sep 6: A national webinar on legal awareness titled ‘Stop Violence Against Women’ was jointly organised here on Sunday by the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) along with Delhi and Haryana State Legal Services Authority and other institutes.
The webinar was participated by Member Secretary, APSLSA Jaweplu Chai along with a large number of Judicial Officers, Legal Aid Counsels and Para Legal Volunteers across the state. Bhagidari Jan Sahyog Samiti, NSS Arunachal University of Studies, NSS J. C. Bose University of Science & Technology YMCA, NSS K. R. Mangalam University, Ideal Institute of Management & Technology, Satyawati College (Evening)-University of Delhi, M. R. Bharti College of Education and NSS Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University were the collaborators of the webinar.
Vice Chancellor, Arunachal University of Studies Professor O. P. Sharma explained the types of violence faced by women today. Justice Rumi Kumari Phukan, Gauhati High Court cum Executive Chairperson, APSLSA informed about the laws to safeguard the interest of women. Member, National Commission for Women, Soso Shaiza discussed the working of the NCW and spoke on the provisions for lodging complaints to the Commission and expressed concern on the rise of domestic violence cases during lockdown. Civil Judge (Sr. Div.), Joint Member Secretary, Haryana State Legal Services Authority Dr. Sukhda Pritam spoke on the role of Legal Services Authorities in providing assistance to victims. Addl. Distt. & Sessions Judge, Member Secretary, Delhi State Legal Services Authority Kanwal Jeet Arora highlighted the functioning of Legal Services Authorities in giving justice to the victims of violence. Inspector General, Nagaland Police Sonia Singh stressed on the need for effective communication between police and public. DG Doordarshan Mayank Aggarwal spoke on the role of the media in changing people’s attitude towards women.
