YINGKIONG, Oct 22: Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) in collaboration with Upper Siang District Administration and APSCW, Yingkiong Unit today organized a One-Day Legal Awareness Programme here at the Multipurpose Community Hall.
APSCW Chairperson, R. Chai Techi while urging the gathering to discourage early marriage and polygamy, said that early marriage cause domestic violence, divorce, economic and emotional abuse and there is also a close relation between domestic violence and polygamy. Various topics such as powers and functions of APSCW, customary practices in Arunachal with special emphasis on land and marriage laws, various government schemes for women, POCSO Act, maternal and child health, compulsory registration of marriage, free legal aid, empowerment of women, etc were discussed during the programme.
Among others, APSCW members Techi Hunmai, Hoksum Ori, K. Chotton, SP N. Nega, DMO Dr. Dubom Bagra and others spoke on various legal issues. DHODs, APSCW Yingkiong Unit and representatives of NGOs, ASHAs, Anganwadi and school children participated in the programme. DIPRO,
