Itanagar, Dec 1: Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) while condemning the murder of Yayik Nilling at Nilling in Upper Subansiri district on November 27 last as a heinous crime, has taken suo motu cognizance of the case.
It has asked the Superintendent of Police, Upper Subansiri to submit the charge sheet as early as possible to give justice to the deceased and her family. Appreciating the police for an early arrest of the accused, the Commission has sought a status report of the case. Meanwhile, taking note of the recent spike of crimes against women in the state, it has urged the State government to strengthen the safety measures.
It has further called for reinforcing the monitoring mechanism for issuing Inner Line Permits to labourers coming from outside by maintaining a proper database.
Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has expressed concern over the rising cases of crimes against women and children in the state.
Referring to the murder of a woman at Nilling in Upper Subansiri district on Friday by one Babul Noroh from Laluk in Assam, APWWS said safety of women must be ensured at any cost and that can materialise only if the authorities initiate prompt actions. “A methodology needs to be developed to check such crimes by the migrant workers. Rapid urbanisation and development must go hand in hand, but with a safety firewall for citizens,” APWWS reiterated, adding that the state government must chalk out a modality to check such crimes. Extending condolences to the bereaved family members of the victim, the Society has demanded exemplary punishment for the culprit.
Meanwhile, APWWS Daporijo Branch Secretary Yabom Lida Yodak contacted SP Upper Subansiri Taru Gusar and Officer In-charge of Daporijo PS Gejum Basar and enquired about the case. It has appreciated the Daporijo Police for arresting the accused promptly.
