TEZU, Feb 9: Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) today organized a meeting on HIV/AIDS (Prevention & Control) Act 2017 at Tezu.

 

Chairing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner of Lohit, Marge Sora while appreciating the APSACS for its role in spreading awareness on HIV and the HIV/AIDS (Prevention & Control) Act 2017, said the Act should be understood and implemented in letter and spirit by government officers. 

 

Deputy Director (IEC), APSACS, Directorate of Health Services Tashor Pali as Resource Person, stated that the objective of the HIV/AIDS Act is correctional in nature and does not aim to penalize people. There are very few provisions which draw penalty and the correctional measures include withdrawal and rectification of wrong acts, counselling of the violator, placement in an NGO, engagement in social work etc., he informed, adding that the legislation also aims at addressing the stigma and discrimination attached to HIV and create an enabling environment for enhancing  access to services, safeguarding rights of PLHIV and those affected by HIV.

 

DMO, Lohit Dr C L Manchey underscored the importance of cooperation of the line departments in implementing the HIV-related health programmes successfully. Medical Superintendent, Zonal Hospital, Tezu Dr. M. Singh also spoke on the occasion.
