ITANAGAR, Sep 18:  In an endeavour to create more awareness on drug abuse, Arunachal Pradesh Police in collaboration with NGO Drug Free Arunachal developed a mobile app “Drug Free Arunachal App” informed  IGP,  Law & Order- Chuku Apa.
Speaking to reporters at PHQ today, IGP informed that due to increasing cases of drug abuse in the state, the police and the NGO have collaborated to curb the drug menace in society. The app will help citizens to report about any anti-social activities related to drugs and the names of complainants will be kept anonymous, added IGP.
He also informed that the soft launch on a trial basis was conducted by the DGP and it’s working fine. However, it will be officially launched on Pan -Arunachal basis on Police Raising day on November next.
While briefing about the drug trade in the state, he disclosed that following a single case  from  May to September,  police has busted drug racket and arrested  9 person  including two IRBN personnel, seized  at least Rs 15 lakh,  contraband substances  suspected to be heroin  407 gram, and other materials used for drugs peddling and consumption.  Recently in September, capital police arrested two persons and seized 372.22 gram of suspected heroin, stated the IGP while expressing concern over the drug peddling in the state. Meanwhile, Chairman, Drug-Free Arunachal and App developer Nabam Serbang informed that anyone can download the app and share live video or photo from anywhere and even lodge FIR related to drug abuse.

 Every complaint lodged will be directly monitored from the DGP/IGP/ SP crime office in Police Headquarters instantly. Concern SP and even the Magistrate of the respective district will also get the notification and they can also monitor the progress of the case, informed Serbang.
