ITANAGAR, Aug 24: A few board members of the Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (APB&OCWWB) on Monday categorically termed the corruption charges levelled by the Arunachal Law Students’ Union (ALSU) against the Board Chairman Jalley Sonam as “unfounded and baseless.”
In a press conference, one of the eldest labour Board member, Kenkar Yomcha clarified that Sonam is also a board member before being the Chairman and every decision related to the board is taken after prior consultation with other board members.“The board members include APB&OCWWB members as well as the trade union members and the Chairman, who is the signing authority. All recommendations and approvals are forwarded by the state government and the Secretary concerned,” he reasoned.
Regarding ALSU’s allegation of spending Rs 6 crore for establishment of APB&OCWWB head office against the budgetary allocation of Rs 4 crore, Yomcha clarified that the additional fund was approved by the state government after recommendation in the board meeting. “Sonam is one of the most dedicated and efficient leaders and all the allegations levelled against him are completely baseless,” he defended. One of the board members, while citing the "most corrupt Labour Board President '' remark made by ALSU, said the union should have a sense of decency while making public statements.
“Anyone has the right to raise a voice against any wrongdoing, but that doesn't mean they should give someone a malicious tag,” he added.
Meanwhile, the board members who could not answer the questions of journalists specifically against its President on other corruption charges levelled by ALSU, however, stated that very soon the Chairman himself will clarify the matter.
