NAHARLAGUN, Aug 1:A meeting for formation of Arunachal Pradesh Employees Insurance Society (Autonomous Body) under the Employees State Insurance (ESI) Act, 1948 for implementation of Employees State Insurance Scheme in Arunachal Pradesh was held today at Banquet Hall, Itanagar which was conducted by the Department of Labour and Employment.

 Onit Panyang Secy. (Labour & Employment) while highlighting the purpose of the meeting emphasised the importance of formation of the Society and its long term benefits to the employees in the private sectors.

L. Jamir, Regional Director, Employees State Insurance Corporation North East Region, Guwahati informed that the Employees’ State Insurance Scheme is an integrated measure of Social Insurance embodied in the Employees Insurance Act and is designed to accomplish the task of protecting ‘employees’ as defined in the ESI Act, 1948 against impact of incidences of sickness, maternity, disablement and death due to employment injury and to provide medical care to insured persons and their families.

The ESI scheme applies to factories and other establishment like road transport, hotels, restaurants, cinemas, educational and medical institutions wherein ten or more persons are employed. The ESI scheme is financed by contributions from employer and employees wherein the employees will pay 1% of their wages and the employer will pay 4%.

L. Tangjam Assistant Labour Commissioner, through power point presentation presented the Memorandum of Association, Bye Laws and Rules and Regulations of the Arunachal Pradesh Employees State Insurance Society. Later threadbare discussion on the subject was held with the stakeholders.

Arunachal Pradesh Employees State Insurance Society was proposed with the following Office bearers- Chairperson ( Secy. Labour & Employment), Vice Chairperson, (Director of Health Services),Chief Executive officer cum Member Secy. (Senior State Medical Commissioner),Additional CEO, Labour Commissioner with other members like Corporation members ,Employers’ representatives, Employees representative, Govt. of India’s nominee etc., which the house approved,

Ojing Darung, Labour Commissioner while thanking all for successful conduct of the meeting hoped that with the support and cooperation of all the stakeholders, the Society will be able to fulfil its objectives.
