LONGDING, Aug 3: Free anti rabies vaccination programme and deworming for pets was held at Veterinary Dispensary, Longding today celebrating 75 years of Independence "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav".
Dr Taken Kamchi DVO said "Rabies is a viral zoonotic disease that is transmitted to people and from animal to animal from the saliva of infected animals. Rabies is usually transmitted through an animal bite, for example, from stray dogs."
On further enquiry, Dr Mitek Tarang VO Longding informed that "The first anti-rabies vaccination is given when the puppy is three months old and the booster dose must be given annually."
Both de-worming and vaccination on a regular basis are essential to avoid serious health problems for the pets, the doctor added.
The Department also gave public awareness about the various zoonotic disease on the day.
