ITANAGAR, Aug 6: "There was no lapse on the part of the government in distributing the compensation amount to those killed and injured during PRC unrest," Home Minister, Bamang Felix said on Tuesday.
He also said that the compensatory amount was already approved by Cabinet sitting besides Group C post to the kin of the deceased and compensation to those injured are being released in a phase-wise manner through respective DCs.
"Out of the three youths killed during the incident, family members of Biki already collected the ex gratia amount of Rs 20 lakh. The other two families had refused to accept the compensation offered by the government, " Felix informed.
Felix was countering criticism by families of those injured and killed during PRC unrest, who in a press conference on Tuesday alleged that government unfairly denied them full payouts while addressing press reporters at his office chamber, Civil secretariat.
He said the state cabinet has cleared a comprehensive compensatory package for the victims of Anti-PRC movement, Rsm20 lakh ex gratia amount for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives while those seriously injured would get Rs 10 lakh.
"There are certain guidelines and law in distributing compensation amount, and government has to follow the procedures too and it cannot be released in one go, " he observed.
He also asked victim families to approach through proper channel as state government is determined to deliver justice to them.
"Improving support for the victims is at the very heart of this government but won't tolerate someone trying to take advantage of the issue," he cautioned.
Over the demand to make public the report of PRC incident by two member high powered committeemformed to ascertain the loss of lives, properties, and circumstances, etc, Felix informed that the committee reported about 60 various cases in total relating to Anti PRC movement.
" The investigation is being done in a phase-wise manner and currently SIT has taken up 10 cases out of 60," he said adding that the result of all cases would be furnished to victim families when it is done. The two member high powered committee was led by then, Principal secretary Home, Ashish Chandra Verma, and Commissioner, PHE, Marnya Ete.
Meanwhile, the PRC Issue Victim Committee(PIVC) has called for an immediate review to find out what is causing the hold-ups in distributing compensation.
Addressing a press conference here today, Chairman, PIVC, Risso Kiagung alleged discrepancies in distributing compensation to victims.
He lamented that while the state has announced 10 lakhs for those seriously injured, on the other hand, medical costs of two youth who suffered bullet injuries have gone above 10 lakhs.
Informing that it has already submitted a memorandum regarding various matters to the Governor, he lamented that no action has been taken towards their demands.
Construction of martyr statue, allocation of martyr ground and declaration of February 24 as martyrs day, arrest of security personnel involved in the mass shooting, making public report of two member high powered committee, adequate compensation to injured youth were few of their core demands.
The committee further warned of launching massive democratic movement if government fails to address their demands within seven days.
