Changlang, Sep 6: The 6-day long operation against extortion activities in Changlang district conducted jointly by Changlang District Police, 14th Rajput Regiment and 171Bn CRPF in Mpen under Miao Circle received yet another success on September 5 last with the apprehension of an active cadre of the former ENNG outfit identified as SS Pvt Ranjan Chakma (29) alias Manoranjan.
During sustained interrogation, the arrested cadre disclosed his hideout at Mpen jungle and led the team there which resulted in recovery of a huge cache of war-like materials including 1 Chinese made Assault rifle, 4 magazines, 109 live ammunition, 1 live hand grenade, 1 walkie-talkie, 1 charger and 1 camouflage ammunition pouch. One Over Ground Worker (OGW) identified as Kamal Chakma (20) who helped the cadres with food and shelter was also captured from Mpen at the wee hours on Sunday.
With the apprehension of SS Pvt Wangmon Khimhun and SS Pvt Ranjan Chakma on the previous days and with arrest of the OGW Kamal Chakma on September 5, all the most-wanted ultras involved in the extortion racket in Mpen have been nabbed. During the six-day continuous operation, the joint team of Changlang district police led by SP Changlang Mihin Gambo, SDPO Miao Tasi Darang, L/Insp N Angu, SI J Aran and Miao Police under guidance of PHQ and DIGP TCL, 171Bn CRPF led by 2IC Kunwar Singh and 14th Rajput Regiment led by a Company Commander apprehended two active armed cadres of the former ENNG working for NSCN-K, one OGW and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition that comprise 2 Chinese Assault rifles, 9 magazines, 239 live ammunition, 1 live hand grenade, 1 walkie-talkie, charger, magazines pouches, holster and other incriminating documents.
