RAGA, Dec 16: Hundreds of people from all walks of life took to the streets in Raga, Kamle District to protest against the rape of a minor. The agitating public demanded exemplary punishment against the accused.
As per reports, on December 12, a 14-year-old girl, a student of Green Hills School, Raga was allegedly raped by the principal of the school. The Raga police arrested the accused principal on Tuesday and accordingly registered an FIR under POCSO Act on the basis of a written complaint by the victim’s family.
“We want the administration to hand over the accused to the public; immediate sealing of the school," shouted the gathering as they vented out their emotions.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Kamle, Hengo Basar assured the public of a free and fair investigation in the case. “We will ensure there is no tampering with the evidence.  Infact we will immediately constitute a committee to seal the school," he said while speaking to the agitating mob.
Earlier, Superintendent of Police, Rahul Gupta informed that the accused is under police custody and he will be produced before the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court.
The All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) has vehemently condemned the incident and has sought exemplary punishment as per law.
 This is a heinous crime against girl child; accused must be given exemplary punishment as per law of the land. It is very disheartening that girl child is not even safe in schools and state government should enact some safety measures, law to eradicate crime against girl child in schools of Arunachal Pradesh, the association said in a release.
