Shillong, Jul 11: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has postponed his visit to Meghalaya’s state capital by at least another week, senior BJP leader and cabinet minister Alexander Laloo Hek said on Sunday.
Shah was expected to undertake a two-day visit to Shillong to meet with Chief Ministers, Chief Secretaries and police heads of the north eastern states from July 17.
“I have been informed that the Home Minister has postponed his visit  to July 24,” Hek said.
Shah will chair a meeting with Chief Ministers of the North Eastern states and senior government officials to discuss the vexed boundary disputes between states in the region.
Assam has boundary disputes not only with Nagaland, but with other neighbouring states of Meghalaya, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh stretching over decades.
The Union Home Minister would also be visiting the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) besides inaugurating two-three projects in Shillong and East Khasi Hills district.
Apart from that, Shah will visit Sohra where he would be inaugurating a project. At the same time he will start a new project of tree plantation because there is a massive drive to ensure increase in tree plantation coverage in Sohra area.
