ITANAGAR, Jun 15: Alleging mismanagement of the state exchequer by Deputy Chief Minister and holder of the Finance & Planning portfolio Chowna Mein, the All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) has demanded his immediate resignation and disclosure of a white paper on the state’s current financial status within June 24 next.
Speaking to reporters at Press Club on Monday, ANYA President Byabang Joram alleged that Mein has failed to provide the details of the fund received from the central government for Covid-19 expenses and other heads.
Joram also demanded that an inquiry should be initiated against the Finance Minister for mismanagement of government funds through questionable means of expenditures in connivance with a section of government officials. “There are many contractors who are still crying for their pending bills, but surprisingly, payments of those have been cleared who are the near and dear ones of the Minister especially from Namsai and Tawang districts,” Joram alleged.
“During the tenure of Chief Minister Pema Khandu and DCM & Finance Minister Chowna Mein, we have seen development packages only for Tawang and Namsai. Moreover, various offices of the Chief Engineers have been shifted to both these districts in the name of Zonal offices which is an unnecessary harassment for the common people,” ANYA President alleged. He further claimed that the government has also failed to sanction the fund earmarked for the schemes approved by the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure during 2019-2020. “Many of the sanctioned works and the already tendered projects are yet to receive fund allocation and despite funding from the central government under the 14th Finance Commission, the state is suffering from fund crunch across various sectors like education and health,” he added.
President ANYA went on to recall that many of their earlier demands are yet to be fulfilled and the promises made during the March 5 meeting attended by the state's cabinet ministers have also proved to be hollow. “There is still no proper action on the APSSB job scandal case, issues pertaining to GeM procurement, Assam-Arunachal boundary dispute and arrest of those bigwigs involved in the land compensation scandal of the Potin-Bopi and Joram Koloriang stretches of TAH,” Joram stated.
Reiterating that their movement hasn’t ceased and was only deferred after state government’s assurance, the association said it will recommence the democratic movement from June 24 next.
