NAMSAI, Apr 10: Amid reports of police atrocity meted out to a medical staff who was on Covid-19 duty recently in the capital region, a similar report from Namsai has emerged where a 50-year old daily wage earner was reportedly assaulted so brutally by the Namsai Police leaving his left arm fractured.
As per reports, on Monday last the poor daily wage earner was on his way to a pharmacy when a police personnel on duty started assaulting him without asking the reason for venturing out. When contacted, SP Namsai Ankit Singh informed that DIGP (East) has already ordered a departmental inquiry within 15 days. “I have personally visited the victim and inquired about the incident on Wednesday. Moreover, I have also provided cash for his immediate medical treatment and assured to provide essential ration items and the required compensation,” SP informed.
Condemning the incident, the Northeast Human Rights Organization (NEHRO) has filed a case with the National Human Rights Commission. Doctor has advised the victim to take rest for at least three months. The 50-year old is staying alone in Namsai for the last three decades and has no one to look after.
Meanwhile, SP Namsai has provided Rs 3000 as an immediate medical assistance to the victim. However, the essential ration items and the compensation as assured are yet to arrive.
