ITANAGAR, Sep 21: All India Organisation of Chemists & Druggist (AIOCD), country’s largest organisation of chemists & distributors has made its stand clear against the “online sale of medicines” and called for a nation-wide chemists’ bandh on September 28, according to a press release received here today.
J S Shinde, President, AIOCD, said, “AIOCD made repeated appeals by memorandums to Central Govt., concerned ministers, departments and State Food & Drug Administration citing numerous cases / examples of illegal Online Sale of Medicines by so called e-pharmacies, portals or internets and observed one day all India chemists bandh twice and 8 hours work to rule, to sensitize the seriousness of this issue.”
“This has created unrest in the minds of chemists and we are forced to agitate against the inaction of the Government and state level authorities,” Shinde said.
Rajiv Singhal, Hon Gen Secretary, AIOCD said, that In spite of all democratic measures, the Central Govt. went ahead with its agenda without considering concerns, particularly possible ill effect on health of general public and youth of the country.
Nowhere in the world, have even advanced tightly regulated countries given free hand to “Online Sale of Drugs”, he said and added that those countries have given some scope to online sale, but after reconsidering again to further add-on restrictions on finding gross misuse by unauthorized web-portals carrying an unethical sale of medicines. It will be premature to allow online sale in India with inadequate regulatory infrastructure, he said.
If the Government fails to understand and do not consider our appeal positively, then AIOCD shall not have any option but to go for nationwide indefinite agitation against Online Sale of Medicine, said Shinde.
