TEZU, Dec 29: Revival hopes for All India Radio, Tezu, the second oldest radio station in Arunachal Pradesh after Pasighat was renewed today with the inspection visit of the Additional Director General (Engg) North Eastern Zone Guwahati Sashi Kant and his team.
The team examined the signal and audio qualities of the 10 KW Medium Wave Transmitter and evaluated the upgradation prospects of the FM transmission system. During interaction, ADG expressed concern over the poor infrastructure and promised to rectify the technical shortcomings immediately. “We are equally worried the way the public of these areas are deprived from better radio services. I have inspected thoroughly and set a time frame of two months to address this long-pending complaint and assure to revisit the station as a follow-up exercise,” ADG assured, besides committing to upgrade the existing 01 KW FM to 10 KW with 12-hour services.
“Its urgent rectification and upgradation will visibly pave way for better radio services in the interior districts of the state,” ADG hoped.
“Though AIR Tezu was upgraded to 10 KW Medium Wave, its reception quality is low, humming and distorted with frequent breakdowns and poor audibility because of obsolete and outdated equipment and machineries. However, to extend better services and to relay local news from Itanagar we replaced it with 01 KW FM transmission but that too has limited coverage and time,” regretted the Programme Executive AIR Tezu Anand Miyi.
Visit of the ADG will definitely address the long-pending technical glitches that the station is plagued with, hoped Miyi. The team later visited the encroachment site at Tezu Khola and issued instruction to erect permanent structure to thwart rampant intrusions.
AIR Tezu is the last radio station of the easternmost part of India and its strategic importance can’t be overlooked. But due to poor signal and audio qualities since beginning which had somehow remained unattended despite repeated reminders, confronting the powerful foreign transmissions has remained an onerous task thus far.
