TEZU, Aug 25: After their pen down strike seeking release of pending 18 months salary evoked no response from higher authorities, BSNL employees (Contractual) today resorted to two days hunger strike here in front of the BSNL office.
BSNL employees from Changlang and Namsai districts also participated in the hunger strike. The members of All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union (AAPWU)- Tezu unit , Joint Committee of Arunachal Pradesh Trade Union (JCAPTU) also joined the dharna. There is no response from a higher authority which has compelled us to resort to hunger strike, said an employee. He further lamented that almost all the employees are in debt and not even in a position to provide basic needs for their families as they haven’t received their salary since March 2019.
We appealed the concerned officials and officers of the BSNL and other private parties who have share in the BSNL to release the pending salaries. Our demands include no retrenchment of contractual workers, no reduction in working hours and immediate payment of pending salary, he added
District Labour & Employment Officer, Lohit, Lee Ete expressed his concern over the injustice towards the BSNL employees. He also disclosed that salary being provided to the contractual employees is not as per the government norms. He further informed his department will extend all possible help if required to the agitating employees.
