Yupia, May 11: In view of the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in pigs, Department of Veterinary, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development on Monday conducted an awareness-cum-sensitization programme in the Capital Region.
The Department has already intensified IEC campaign in Capital Region and rural parts of Papum Pare district to contain the disease. During the campaign people were sensitised on ASF and its prevention besides sanitisation of pigsties. Senior Veterinary Officer Dr. S.Yomdo informed that Sero samples are being collected from different locations of both the affected and surveillance zones which will be send to the GoI designated regional laboratory at NERDDL, Khanapara for further testing. Recently, state government has also issued an order banning the import and selling of pigs and pork with strict directions to maintain hygiene & segregation of healthy pigs, isolation of the affected ones and immediate or early reporting of pigs showing off-feed condition, laboured breathing, redundancy, fever and sneezing to the nearest veterinary doctor.
