PASIGHAT, Mar 19: In a process and attempt to help the fish farmers of East Siang District to make the services of Assistant Fisheries Officer in the respective circles of East Siang District, the All East Siang District Students’ Union (AESDSU) has appealed the Dy. Commissioner, Pasighat to make necessary arrangements to attach or allot office rooms for AFOs in all the circles of East Siang District for the convenience of the fish farmers of the district.
In a letter addressed to DC, Pasighat on Wednesday, David Miding Jerang, Asst. Gen. Secretary, AESDSU and James Taloh, a student activist have jontly urged the District Administration to accommodate or arrange an office attached with every circle/EAC/ADC office of East Siang District so that fish farmers of the respective jurisdictional villages could reach out to AFOs for any fish farming related information and know-how from the circle level itself without visiting the Disrict HQ, Pasighat.
“Many interested fish farmers are finding it difficult to come over to Pasighat for even for a minor enquiry and know-how in the absence of an office of AFO at their respective circles despite of good many AFOs available in the District”, said Jerang and Taloh. The students also added that the income sources are minimal these days and many fish farmers are willing to do fish farming as the district has tremendous potentiality for fish farming, but non availability of AFO offices in their respective circles are often making farmers difficult to reach out to the concern officers of fish farming. The provision of the demanded offices as needed would be a boon for the fish farming interested rural populace of the district, added the students.
Meanwhile, Dayum Davi, the District Fishery Development Officer when contacted said that, the office of DFDO has enough AFOs, but the department has no such provisions or offices in circle level, but the same AFO offices can be accommodated or adjusted in the offices of Circle Officer level if the Dy. Commissioner desired so for the convenience of the fish farmers in the villages.
However, DC Pasighat has marked the matter to DFDO and the district administration is likely to address this genuine need and demand of the farmers.
