Itanagar, Feb 12: A meeting of the Childline Advisory Board (CAB) to review its functioning and to discuss about Child Welfare Committee’s activities was held today here at the Don Bosco Youth Centre which was chaired by DC Itanagar Capital Region Komkar Dulom.
Various issues pertaining to functioning of the Childline, Child Welfare Committee etc were discussed by the members of the CAB. Chairperson CWC Advocate Likha Asha informed about the cases that have been taken after she assumed the post of Chairperson in January 2020. Legal cum Probation Officer DCPU Yupia Tarh Nagu pointed out the shortcomings that are being faced during rescue operations such as unavailability of vehicles, to which the DC assured to look after. He also informed that the rescued children are provided shelter at Oju Mission and at Shishu Bhawan. DC further assured that all kinds of support would be provided by the District Administration and urged all stakeholders to work together as a team and called for giving thrust on generating people’s awareness regarding the services of Childline. Our intention should be to change the outlook of people as child labour is still being practiced by many people without even realising its consequences, he added.
SDB Director Childline Father Cyriac stressed on the need to improve the visibility of Childline and highlighted the need for having more awareness generation programmes especially for teachers, students, police, auto/tempo drivers etc. He requested the DC for inclusion of the Childline logo in utility bills, newspapers etc for greater visibility to which DC assured that he would take up the matter with the departments and other agencies and also informed that his letter pad will incorporate the logo from now onwards with hope that the step yield results.
DSP Capital updated about the cases referred by CWC and related issues. Earlier, Coordinator Childline Peter Langpong through a PPT briefed about Childline services and its activities and informed that Childline Itanagar has attended a total of 1578 cases till date across various categories. Among others, EAC Dakli Gara, representatives of Oju Mission and members of CWC attended the meeting.
It will be pertinent to mention that Childline is India’s first 24-hour free emergency phone and outreach service for children in need of care and protection and any child or concerned adult can dial 1098 to avail its emergency assistance. It reaches out to children from 0-18 years of age and in extraordinary cases to young adults up to 25 years of age. With the aim of protecting children, if any call is made to Childline seeking help, the team tries to reach the child and provide rehabilitation and constant follow up.
