BORDUMSA, Feb 24: The Bordumsa administration here in Changlang district, with the help of police and para military forces destroyed poppy field over five acres in the Dirak Pathar and Kumung Pathar areas of Bordumsa sub-divison here on Wednesday.
On receiving inputs from the person engaged, a 30-member team, headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang, destroyed the extensive plantation worth lakhs.
The ADC informed that the poppy cultivators felled trees in order to block the approach road and prevent the team from carrying out the drive.
While the administration has destroyed the illegal cannabis and poppy cultivation, no arrests were made as the cultivators had fled the spot before the administration team arrived, informed Jerang.
The officer-in-charge of the Bordumsa police station has been directed to register a case against unknown cultivators under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985.
Samples of the destroyed poppy and cannabis plantation have been collected by the police to produce as evidence in the court of law.
The police team was led by Bordumsa PS OC Inspector L Kamcham, with the addition of RFO Bordumsa Bullet Megu, Land Management officials and gaon burahs of the area.
