ITANAGAR, Apr 4: Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) while expressing concern over the seizure of massive 1.8 crore cash by the election monitoring team in Pasighat, has urged all political parties to respect democracy and shun ‘cash-for-vote’ culture.
Terming such trend as a potent threat to free and fair elections, it said that due to such practices Arunachal Pradesh has earned a bad reputation which is also reflected in its backwardness in all fronts.
It also urged eligible voters to desist from giving away their votes to politicians for a one-time sum of money and rather vote independently with free will.
Stating that lives will not improve if they elect such candidates who offer money, it also cautioned that once such candidates come to power, they will seek to earn it back without doing any developmental work. “If we want to see a change in the system, a corruption free state then it is we who have to change first,” ACS chairman Patey Tayum appealed.
It further urged the concerned authorities to intensify vigil and intelligence to keep tabs on the movement of cash and valuables intended to influence voters. ES Newsdesk
