ITANAGAR, Nov 18: The Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) has welcomed the decision of the state government to constitute a three-member committee for resolving the Tawang church stalemate.
Addressing the media persons in a press conference here at the Press Club on Wednesday, ACF President Toko Teki said that the forum is ready to cooperate with the committee and will respect the final decision. “We appreciate the step taken by the state government for solving the matter by forming a three-member committee and we believe that the committee headed by Minister Mama Natung, MLAs Nyato Dukam and Nyamar Karbak will conduct an impartial study of the case and bring a fruitful decision,” he stated, adding however that in case of lack of impartiality, the ACF will not hesitate to launch democratic movement.
Reacting on the representations made by various  district units of the Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) and Janjati Suraksha Manch (JSM), a Madhya Pradesh based organization to the Prime Minister through the concerned Deputy Commissioners with the appeal to remove the Scheduled Tribe (ST) status of those who have changed their original religion to Christianity, the ACF chief clarified  that indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh are tribal by birth and no power can change their status.
Claiming their appeal as an unnecessary attempt to create division among the peace-loving people of the state, the ACF President requested the IFCSAP and JSM not to propagate any kind of hate propaganda in the state.  Meanwhile, the ACF has appealed to the State Election Commission to defer the PR and Municipal elections, stating that December is the holy month for Christians with celebrations beginning from the first week itself with Christmas carol and lasting till the month end.

Showing disappointment on the scheduled date, the ACF President said that they are not against the election but as there is a possibility of election-related violence, it could cast a negative impact on the holy occasion.
