KANUBARI, May 10: After almost three days, and with continuous efforts by local villagers, Longding Police, and Assam Rifles, militant group NSCN (K-YA) faction today released abducted Gaon Burah of  Lauksim village, Napho Boham.
Boham was abducted in the midnight of May 7 last by a group of suspected NSCN (K-YA) cadres led by its self-styled corporal Wanglem Wangsu.
“The Gaon Burah along with a few of the villagers who had gone to Lokkun village in Nagaland for the negotiation process reached New Banfera village under Kanubari Subdivision of Longding district at around 5pm today,” informed Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bangjang Tangzang. He said that the release was the result of constant pressure by the police under the supervision of SP, Longding as well as the villagers and the Assam Rifles.
The Gaon Burah is reportedly in sound health and doing well. “The GB told us that the militants did not do anything to him but to make sure we have sent him for medical examination,” the DySP stated.
He also informed that the militant group was asking ‘house tax' amounting to Rs 4.5 lakh from the GB and have still put a condition to pay the tax.  Police will register a case, after receiving of a formal complaint from the family, the DySP added.
