ITANAGAR, Jul 15: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) has welcomed the Union Cabinet decision to amend the Constitution(ST) order 1950 refering to many tribes of Arunachal Pradesh including the 'Other Naga Tribe' tag for Nocte, Tangsa, Tutsa, Wancho.
The union termed the decision as historic and said that it will have a positive impact for the tribes. The decision has given this tribe their definite identity from the ambiguous status they were in for last 74 years. The union thanks the Hon'ble prime minister, MPs from the state, state government and all those individuals and leaders who have at different times stood up for the issue notably former union minister and present MLA Ninong Ering for his instrumental role for the historic decision, AAPSU said in a release today.
The union also called on MP Tapir Gao on Wednesday and apprised him about the recent violence committed by Chakmas in Lohit District and also implored upon him to bring in motion in the coming monsoon session the anomalies in AIS Act 1950 for height relaxation in the prestigious UPSC exams.
