ITANAGAR, Apr 3: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU)representing the sentiments of the scholars’ fraternity has urged the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission to implement UGC guidelines in the appointment of teachers and Assistant Professors in Government Colleges.

For transparent and feasible selection of teachers, the union has sought to make mandatory to follow the UGC-API Guideline in the recruitment process. As per UGC guidelines the interview board shall have to take into consideration, academic record and research performance (50%), assessment of domain knowledge and technical skills (30%) and interview performance (20%).

The union has also appealed for giving additional 5 years relaxation for PhD holders and 2 years for M.Phil holders by replacing “other deserving candidate’s category” as mentioned under state recruitment rules.

‘We would like to inform you that duration for M.Phil degree is of two years while PhD is of six years maximum (as followed by Central Universities) which is quite long and as a result many qualified youths have been left in the lurch due to lack of employment and over age,’ the union said while informing that there is no age bar for the recruitment of Assistant Professor as per UGC guidelines. It has also asked for proper implementation of the selection committee which is also as per UGC norms.

‘It is unfortunate that the APPSC does not follow these UGC guidelines in the recruitment process of teachers in different colleges,’ the union further added.

The Research Scholar’s fraternity of Rajiv Gandhi University, National Institute of Technology (NIT) and North East Regional Institute of Science & Technology (NERIST) also voiced their support on the matter.
