ITANAGAR, Jan 4: The All Arunachal Pradesh Student's Union (AAPSU) today urged that the August 2022 deadline for the commencement of the Greenfield Airport at Hollongi must be fulfilled.
A team led by the Union's General Secretary Tobom Dai visited the ongoing construction site of the Greenfield Airport today to assess the progress and quality of the ongoing construction work.
A brief interaction was also held with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials represented by its General Manager Dilip Sajnani. The team was informed that 80% work of the runway has been completed and by August this year, the remaining work will be completed.
Later in the day while addressing the accompanying media, Dai said the ambitious project is a pride & dream project of the frontier state since Arunachal is the only state that is yet to be connected by airways and missing from the country's aviation map. "The people of the state are eagerly waiting for its commencement and the deadline given by the state government for August 2022 need to be fulfilled in all earnest."
He also highlighted drawing from the union's past history that AAPSU leadership had felt the necessity for an airport way back in 1996 under the leadership of the then President Takam Sanjoy and General Secretary Domin Loya and the same was submitted as one of the 10 points charter of demand to the Government of India in 1994.
