NAHARLAGUN, Nov 30: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) today asked the state Bharatiya Janata Party to cancel the tickets given to non-APST ZPM candidates in Changlang district for the ensuing Panchayat elections by Tuesday or else face agitation.
While one Punaram Gogoi has been declared the ZPM candidate for Diyun, Sujata Rai is the official candidate of Vijaynagar.
Calling the movement as a protection of indigenous rights, president Hawa Bagang informed that initially the agitation will begin in Changlang district and later across the entire state if the BJP fails to fulfil its demand. He was addressing media persons at the Press Club this morning.
“You cannot curtail the rights of tribal people just for your political motive,” charged Bagang. He further asked not to repeat the same with the ZPC ticket.
Reiterating that Arunachal is a 100 per cent tribal state, he demanded that lease agreement for the refugee settlement in the state which ends this year must not be extended.
Hawa said that thevBJP by giving ticket to non-APSTs has undermined the policy of Arunachal Pradesh Land Settlement Act 2020.
Accompanying the president was vice president Meje Taku who appealed to everyone to support AAPSU in the movement. “United we stand, divided we fall,” he said.
He further asked the returning officers not to accept the nomination of the two candidates.
AAPSU also warned all the political parties  not to give tickets to any non- indigenous people in the upcoming panchayat poll.
Meanwhile,  local MLA cum Minister UD & Civil Supply,  Kamlung Mossang  while speaking to local media channel clarified that  since the inception of the Panchayati  Raj,  tickets  in the Vijaynagar segment have been  awarded to the  Non-APST of the area.
BJP has nothing to do with it. If the concerned officer will find fault as per the norms, the nomination will automatically be cancelled, stated the Minister. He also appealed to everyone to maintain peace and tranquility during the election process.
While speaking to the media, State BJP Spokesperson, Techi Necha said that the party will look into the reservation expressed by various organizations in relation to awarding of tickets to Non-APSTs.
