ITANAGAR, Oct 5: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) on Tuesday staged a statewide protest rally against the state government for the inordinate delay in bringing out the draft proposal on the “Off-spring” issue.
In the state capital, hundreds of people comprising students and various frontal wings of AAPSU including community based students organizations participated in the rally that started from Akashdeep and culminated at Indira Gandhi Park.
The federating units of the AAPSU also staged protest rallies across the state which was followed by sit-in dharna outside the Deputy Commissioners offices in all districts of the state.
“AAPSU is organizing this protest rally and sit-in dharna in all districts of the state to register strong protest against the state government’s lackadaisical attitude on the ‘Offspring’ issue”,” said AAPSU general secretary Tobom Dai, addressing the gathering at IG Park here.
Dai said that the union takes serious exception to the lackadaisical attitude, inordinate delay and delaying tactics adopted by the nodal agency and joint high power committee in coming out with a draft form of the proposed legislation on the “Offspring” issue as demanded by the Union since 2018.
Terming the issue as a disease which is living within the system, the AAPSU general secretary urged the public for support stating that the Union will succeed in finding a logical conclusion to the issue.
Demanding for the immediate release of the preliminary draft on the issue by October 8 this month, Dai said, “This protest rally is the first phase and if the government fails to address our demand, there will be consequences for which the Department of SJETA, the state government and the chairman of high power committee will be held responsible.”
