ITANAGAR, Jan 12: Responding to the call of North East Students Union (NESO), the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) on Saturday observed ‘Black Day’ at its office premises in solidarity with five student activists who sustained bullet injuries after police opened fire at protesters during an agitation against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Tripura. Addressing a huge gathering here today at AAPSU head office, ESS sector, General Secretary AAPSU, Tobom Dai said that the proposed amendment will prove detrimental to the people of entire Northeast if once it becomes a law.
He asked the BJP government at the Centre to revoke its decision which may ignite communal disharmony and disrupt the prevailing peaceful atmosphere. “It is shocking to learn that at a time when AAPSU and other students’ organizations in the Northeast are fighting to deport illegal migrants the Centre is trying to legalise their stay,” Dai lamented. Dai also lambasted the Tripura government including concerned authorities for not denying permission to few NESO leaders who went to visit the victims.
“If the Tripura government was concerned about the injured, they would have allowed the NESO leaders to visit the victims and at the same time would have provided incentives,” he said.   He also informed that NESO has demanded immediate judicial enquiry in the case and compensation to the victims as to meet the medical expenses.
“We have been fighting against the illegal migrant issues since last five decades and many student leaders have sacrificed their lives for the cause. Therefore, I humbly request Chief Minister Pema Khandu to adopt a resolution against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, as has been done by Meghalaya government,” he appealed. Further, Dai reiterated that even if the Bill became a law, the indigenous people will never accept it and AAPSU will not allow Arunachal to become the dumping ground of refugees and illegal migrants.
