ITANAGAR, Sep 26: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has expressed resentment over the recent incident of ‘forcible land grabbing’ of a native Arunachalee by a person from Assam in Kangku Circle under Lower Siang district.
According to a press release issued today, one Ajit Munda from the neighbouring state had illegally attempted to occupy a private land belonging to an Arunchalee allegedly with the help of police and other officials from Assam yesterday. Despite repeated appeals from the original owner and the village level peace committees, Ajit Munda started constructing a permanent house in the land which is well within the territorial jurisdiction of Arunachal Pradesh. As per information, he was a simple tenant by status and was allowed to stay on the land previously on a temporary basis. Highlighting this particular incident, AAPSU has also said that such repeated attempts as well as actions on the part of the Assam Government along the inter-state boundary areas are common and there are incidents of illegal land grabbing, damaging of crops & structures etc which recur in Kangku Circle. Such incidents, if not stopped at once, may culminate into Tarasso like happenings, the release said.
In view of the above unfortunate happenings, AAPSU while questioning the silence of the Lower Siang District Administration has demanded strong action by the Arunachal government to protect the lives and properties of the Arunachalees living along the Arunachal-Assam boundaries. It had further appealed the Assam government and the organizations based there to respect the age-old traditions of peaceful co-existence and maintain the status-quo as directed by the Supreme Court.
