BJP Arunachal condemns Opposition for blocking Women’s Reservation Bill
ITANAGAR, May 5: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has strongly condemned the statement by one Suhas Chakma describing the Chakmas and Hajongs settled in the state as 'vulnerable sections' during the current situation marked by Covid-19 pandemic.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, AAPSU while objecting the above statement said that the whole country and the indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh are equally affected and the claim is baseless.
The union further observed that state government is making best effort to reach out to all the needy people without any discrimination of tribal, non-tribal, migrants etc statuses during this hour of uncertainty.
“Hence, people like Suhas Chakma and his coterie should stop playing the 'victim card' every time especially at this time of medical emergency. AAPSU strongly refutes the blatant lie being spread by people like Suhas Chakma and will ask him to request the central government to constitute an independent committee along with AAPSU to evaluate what facilities these people in Arunachal are enjoying,” the release mentioned.
With schools, public health centres, good road connectivity and occupancy of large swathes of land, they ( Chakma and Hajong) in fact are enjoying facilities even more than many indigenous people of the state, AAPSU General Secretary, Tobom Dai claimed. Regarding the recent boundary imbroglio in Papum Pare district, the union has also taken a strong exception to the punitive action taken by Assam forest officials from time to time on the people of Arunachal.
“When the boundary issue is sub judice in Supreme Court, actions by Assam are unwarranted and state government should not remain a mere spectator,” said its President Hawa Bagang. AAPSU further demanded that state government should lodge an FIR and file a contempt petition without further delay.
The union, meanwhile, has once again requested the state government to provide financial assistance to those stranded students of the state who have been left out of the relief package last time. AAPSU PR
