ITANAGAR, Jun 22: The Covid-19 Mission of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) on Monday conducted a meeting to review the recent spike of Covid positive cases in the state capital.
Initiated by the Mission Chairman cum Vice-President (Admin) Meje Taku and attended by the President and General Secretary of AAPSU, the meeting while expressing concern over 15 NDRF and 1 GREF personnel testing positive, also discussed the current SOP applicable for the Central Paramilitary Forces (CPMFs) and Border Road Task Force (BRTF) devised by the State Health Department.
The union while taking strong exception to Point No .2 of the revised SOP issued by the State Health Department for CPMFs and BRTF (vide order No. MIDSP/COVID-19/2020/18 dated, Naharlagun 19th May, 2020) which mentions that testing facility offered by GoAP shall be used only for those developing Covid-19 symptoms during quarantine with sample collection for RT-PCR to be done by District/ State Health Department,
has demanded that testing should be made mandatory for all returnees even if they are asymptomatic.
Placing the demand for mandatory testing of all returnees irrespective of the symptoms, AAPSU has also stressed that state government should make it applicable across all districts and not just Papum Pare and West Kameng as almost every district in the state has the presence of CPMF and BRTF personnel. The union has also urged the CPMF and BRTF personnel who have arrived in the state to voluntarily come forward for testing and extend cooperation to the State Health Department which would go a long way in checking resentment and fear among the state’s people already under a certain level of panic. Appealing the state government to take due cognizance of their concerns, AAPSU has underscored that lack of diligence may undermine the efforts to make the state Covid-free, with need for more Covid awareness programmes.
The union has further stated that it has been receiving reports of influx of returnees from the Chakma refugee community in Changlang district despite many of them are testing positive. In this regard, it has urged the state government to ascertain whether these returnees are from the designated camps in the state or elsewhere. AAPSU PR
