ITANAGAR, Jun 8: A day-long state-wide sit-in protest was organized today by All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) here at IG Park to condemn  the killing of Khona West MLA, Tirong Aboh and 10 others.
Addressing the gathering, President AAPSU, Hawa Bagang while strongly condemning the incident urged the state government to declare the PSOs and police personnel killed during the incident as martyrs. Bagang said that providing mere compensation will not bring justice to the victims and reiterated on wiping out all the insurgent groups from the state. Criticizing the state police including the army and its intelligence set-up, he  alleged that despite massive funding by central government to DoTCL, the state government has failed to stop the continuing acts of factional killings and kidnappings. He underlined that it is the moral duty of state government to take up follow-up action in maintaining law and order and not depend on the Centre entirely. Bagang also stressed that while it is the duty of the state government to check terrorism, it is also the responsibility of the respective MLAs of TCL region and common people to help security forces in maintaining law and order and not succumb to pressure given by insurgent groups.
He also hinted that if the government fails to initiate any concrete action regarding the vexed insurgency issue, the union might launch non-cooperation movement in near future.
Echoing similar sentiments and condemning the incident in strongest terms, GS, Tobom Dai called for bringing a lasting solution to insurgency in TCL region to free its people from the clutches of the rebel groups. Also appreciating the state government’s decision to hand over the May 21 massacre case to NIA following AAPSU appeal, Dai called for launching a sweeping crackdown against militant organizations operating in TCL region.
“If such anti-social elements aren't expelled from TCL,  one day it will spread in other districts too and could become a potential threat to the growth of the state,” he pointed out.  At the same time, he said that the problem of insurgency begun in TCL region two decades back and was introduced by a  few disgruntled politician to fulfil their political goals.
“Political will and resolute political leadership is the need of the hour that could solve the problems of insurgency,” Dai underlined while  appealing the people of TCL region to come out and speak openly against the insurgent activities and discourage the trend of paying ‘taxes’ to the militant outfits .
