ITANAGAR, Aug 27: In the wake of the Union Health & Family Welfare Ministry’s decision to discontinue allocation of seats under the central pool quota for MBBS seats to the state from academic session 2019-20 onwards, the apex students body All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has urged the state government and its representatives in Parliament to take up the matter with the Centre. A team led by its education secretary Prem Camdir Tallong met the Director of Higher & Technical Education in this regard.
In an emergency sitting, AAPSU while viewing the matter seriously said that “Although, 15% of total seats are provided under the All India Quota in TRIHMS out of the total 50 seats, the remaining seats have not been sufficient enough to accommodate the young medical aspirants from the state. Further, the interested students who have secured more than the qualifying marks in the NEET exams are not getting Medical quota seats in Medical colleges of other states.”
We urge the State Government and the three MP’s from the state to immediately take up the matter with the Government of India. We strongly demand for allocation as well as continuation of central pool quota and the total number of seats at TRIHMS, which is the lone medical college in the state, should also be subsequently increased from 50 to 100, the union said in a release.
