Aalo, Aug 9: The ‘Ali Pator’, a traditional ritual to drive away epidemics and pandemics like Covid-19 was performed by the land donors for establishment of Aalo township here on August 7-8 last.
The ritual was followed by a self-lockdown in the entire township which commenced on the evening of August 8 and will continue till August 10 as per customary practices where a self-lockdown is observed after such rituals. The entire township wore a deserted look as all business establishments were closed and vehicles were off the road barring a few exempted services.
In olden days when modern healthcare facilities were not available, the Ali Pator/Ali Ternam was the only remedy practiced by the Galo and other communities to ward off evil spirits and epidemics. DIPRO
