ROING, Nov 6: Minister Sports & Youth Affairs, Mama Natung today inaugurated the 8th Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Badminton Tournament and also kicked off the 14th Naba Ita Pulu Memorial Football Tournament at Roing, Lower Dibang Valley district.
Legislators Gum Tayeng, Mopi Mihu, Mutchu Mithi, Former CM Mukut Mithi, Secretary (Sports & Youth Affairs) Anirudh S. Singh, Secretary(Badminton Association of India) Ajay Kumar Singhania, Secretary (Badminton Association of AP) Bamang Tago, Deputy Commissioner K. N. Damo, SP JK Lego were among those present.
Addressing the players, the minister advised them to take up sports seriously, work hard, and persevere to bring name and fame for the state. ‘The youth should be mentally prepared and cultivate the mindset to excel in the sport they pursue and keep away from drugs and other intoxicants. Youths are the backbone of the state,” he said putting forth the message ‘Drugs Chodo, Khel Jodo’.
Speaking at the 14th Naba Ita Pulu Memorial Football Tournament, Natung paid homage and appreciated the efforts of late Naba Ita Pulu in taking the community forward. He also appreciated the youth and organising committee of the tournament for remembering and commemorating the ideas of the pioneer. 
“Our state is a young state and our youth are not behind in any field of development. We have to work together to take the state forward and take it to new heights,” stated Natung. He also spoke on the need to protect the wildlife and save the environment and forests by shooting ‘with a camera instead of guns’ and surrendering guns, air guns and rifles.
MLA Mutchu Mithi spoke on the importance of sports as it provides an identity, improves economic status and provides hope and encouragement to people in the villages at a chance to represent the state and the country in the field of sports.
Ajay Kumar Singhania, Bamang Tago and DC K. N. Damo also spoke on the occasion. DIPRO
