ITANAGAR, Oct 9: The Mobile Inspection Team (MIT) of Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs led by D. Marbom, Deputy Controller, Headquarters, conducted surprise inspection at Banderdewa, Karsingsa and Nirjuli today and detected five irregularities in weight and measures and three in packaged commodities.
The five cases on weights and measures have been booked under the provisions of Legal Metrology Act 2009 and three cases under Packaged Commodities Rules 2011 for non-display of mandatory declaration on retail packages.
Two retail dispensing pumps of Banderdewa and Karsingsa have also been test-checked. One of the pumps was found giving excess delivery of which the owner has been notified.
The team while conducting inspection also instructed the traders on correct use of weights and measures and timely renewal and verification of weights and measures. The seller of packaged items has been instructed to pass on the benefit to consumers after lowering of GST recently on some of the items and to refrain from any fraudulent practices like overcharging. Further, the packers of commodities who are yet to get registration have been suggested for getting themselves registered under the provision of Packaged Commodities Rules, 2011.
The Department also urged consumers to defend themselves from any unfair trade practices or to report to the nearest Legal Metrology Officer.
