PASIGHAT, Aug 28: As a mark of protest against the government’s alleged attempt to shift the already notified Siang District HQ from Pangin (Perang-Lampang) to Boleng, bill for which will be presented in the ensuing monsoon session of state assembly, 52 Gaon Buras of Pangin and Kebang circle submitted their resignation along with GB appointment letter and red coat to Siang district DC office today.
In their resignation letter, the GBs quoted that they are aggrieved over the decision to shift the district HQ to Boleng and they are opposing the proposed bill for amendment vide District Reorganisation Act to be placed in the monsoon session of assembly wherein Boleng is being named as district HQ of Siang district. The Gaon Buras termed the decision of the state cabinet as inconsistent, illegal and politically motivated.
Speaking on the sideline of the mass resignation, HGB Pangin, Tameng Messar, aged about 87 years, said, “the foundation stone of newly created Siang District HQ was laid at Pangin by the then Chief Minister, Nabam Tuki under Congress Government, but the present BJP government is forcefully shifting the HQ to Boleng by changing the previous government’s notification by certain amendment in the ensuing State Assembly session and the move of the state government is strongly condemnable”. Another GB also said that the people of Pangin region have already donated huge stretches of land to the government for the new district HQ at Perang Lampang (Pangin) in which forest clearance, etc has already been done destroying assets worth crores.
The GBs submitted their resignation along with the appointment letter and red coat to the Addl. Dy. Commissioner in the absence of a regular DC. On the part of ADC, he didn’t accept the resignation though the resignation letter, red coats, etc were placed in his office. ADC Tarik Talom said that he is not the appointing authority of the GBs and so he can’t accept the resignations, but he advised the GBs to have a second thought over the resignation as the state government has not taken any such concrete step to fully shift the district HQ from Pangin to Boleng.
However, the GBs didn’t heed to the advice of the ADC and went on submitting their red coats, appointment letters, etc. Atpresent, the Pangin area is witnessing a 72 hours bandh and as per sources, indefinite bandh will be declared after August 30 if the government does not relent.
