ITANAGAR, Jul 9:  Itanagar and its peripheral areas are in the grip of monsoon fury with heavy downpour triggering landslides and flood-like situation claiming the life of a 5-year-old girl today. The deceased has been identified at Bamang Nijir, and was swept away by flood waters at Chandranagar area.

Receiving heavy rains since Saturday night, normal life has been paralyzed in the capital complex due to landslides at different points on the national highway 415. Moreover, water levels of Pachin and Sinki View rivers are flowing above the danger level. Most of the houses situated on the banks of these rivers have been inundated and at least 20 households have been evacuated.

Superintendent of Police, Papumpare, Tumme Ammo, informed that most of the entry and exit points of the capital complex has been affected due to rain.

Road between Sagalee and Doimukh, Doimukh-Hoj-Potin, Kimin –Potin, Itanagar to Naharlagun near secretariat and Nirjuli to Banderdewa were blocked early this morning however most of the blockade were cleared later in the evening. Besides water logging have also been reported in places like Bage Tinali, Nirjuli Police Station, Pachin Colony and  Yupia Tinali.

In view of the unprecedented situation, all security forces and officers have been asked to keep themselves ready for any kind of relief and rescue mission, added SP Ammo.
