ITANAGAR, Jun 24: Arunachal Pradesh' efforts in combating Coronavirus pandemic took a blow, as a 43-year-old woman with co-morbidity became the first death in the state due to COVID-19 on Wednesday.
As per the bulletin released by the State Health Department, the 43-year-old, a resident of Dirang, West Kameng was suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease. She was undergoing hemodialysis and planning to undergo kidney transplant surgery in Delhi, but due to the prevailing situation the procedure could not be done and she returned from Delhi on June 11 last.
Bulletin also added that she was kept in facility quarantine at Dirang from June 11-15. Her COVID sample was taken on 15th June and was reported inconclusive, however, she was referred to Tawang for dialysis. Her second test was taken on 20th June last which came positive on June 23.
Observing her health condition and positive COVID-19 test, she was referred to TRIHMS, dedicated COVID Hospital for further medical aid, however while on her way to Naharlagun, she expired near Shergaon.
She was cremated following MoH & FW guidelines on dead body management at Dirang today.
