Itanagar, Aug 1: Continuing its crackdown on drug dealers, the police in the Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh arrested four more alleged drug peddlers and recovered over 105 gram suspected heroin from one of them, a senior police officer said on Monday.
On being tipped off that one packet containing suspected heroin, look like a gift box, was being brought to Ziro in a Tata Sumo from Itanagar to be delivered to someone at Hapoli Sumo stand on July 28, a police team from Ziro PS, led by Inspector Millo Lalyang, laid a trap and caught one girl, identified as Phil Doyer (18), a resident of Yachuli, red-handed while collecting the said packet from Laxmi Sumo ticket counter.
She reportedly got a call from one Puri Maku, a resident of Itanagar for collection of the packet, district SP Dr Sachin Kumar Singhal said.
Thereafter, the police team opened the recovered packet in presence of the magistrate and other eyewitnesses and found 60 small plastic vials containing a powdery substance suspected to be heroin, weighing 105.76 grams.
The police also recovered a mobile phone from her possession. One Padi Robin (24), who dropped off the girl at the Sumo stand on his motorbike, was also arrested by the police later, the SP said.
Following the seizure of suspected heroin and the arrests, a case (No. 14/22) U/S 21(b)/27 NDPS Act was registered at Ziro PS and an investigation was launched.
The SP said, the main peddler Puri Maku (20), a native of Boasimla, Kamle district, who stays at Itanagar, surrendered at Ziro Police Station and was subsequently arrested on July 29.
