ITANAGAR, Aug 20: In view of the proposed 36-hour bandh called by the All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) in the state capital on August 27-28 next, Inspector General of Police (IGP)- Law & Order, Arunachal Pradesh, Chuku Apa has warned bandh callers not to resort to any kind of violence to disrupt peace and tranquillity.
“Every person or organization has its rights to resort to democratic movement, but violence in any form will not be accepted,” the IGP said while addressing the media on Thursday.
While informing that the department has received inputs that incidents akin to PRC violence may be repeated during the proposed bandh, he assured that additional security forces from the Ministry of Home Affairs has been mobilized to meet any exigency. “To ensure peace and tranquillity, along with deployment of security forces the department will also use drones, body-cams and assign its officials to record videos and click photos of violators,” the IGP disclosed. He further informed that the police department will ensure normal functioning of government offices and business establishments along with functioning of the State Assembly session scheduled to begin from August 27 next.
Deliberating on social media posts, the IGP informed that police is keeping vigil on social media posts spreading hatred and communal comments to ignite the situation. “Legal action will be initiated against them who resort to violence and the state Acts like Arunachal Pradesh Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act as well as The Arunachal Pradesh Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act will be evoked against those involved in any form of violence or disruption of peace & tranquillity,” he added.
Responding to the query on PRC violence, the IGP informed that cases have been transferred to the SIT and nine persons have been chargesheeted already.
ANYA has announced the 36-hour bandh demanding the resignation of chief minister Pema Khandu for his alleged failure in governing the state.
