ITANAGAR, Nov 27: Three youths attending the Adventure at Mechuka Festival were reportedly roughed up and assaulted by unidentified locals on the night of November 25 last.
The victims— Tony Sonam and Gida Gagung were working at the campsite under the banner ‘Camp Urban Jungle’ and Papu Dolo was the guitarist of a band performing at the festival.
Talking to media, Tony Sonam narrated that after the festival concluded, he along with his friends were jamming at night within the campsite premises where outsiders are not allowed to enter during night hours.
“But out of nowhere a group of around five came and started to shove a senior member of the group. When we tried to stop, the group attacked us with wooden sticks and machete,” he said.
Tony said in due course of time Papu Dolo and Gida Gagung were bleeding from the head and were fully unconscious. He also informed that next morning they were lifted to TRIHMS by helicopter where doctors suggested the duo to be shifted to Guwahati.
Tony who broke the bones of his left hand while defending himself informed that he filed an FIR with the officer in charge at Mechuka.
When contacted, Superintendent of Police, West Siang, Jummar Basar overruled communal angle to the incident. The SP also informed that the main accused in the case, Papor Yorni is absconding from Mechukha town.
He said that the police in Mechuka received a complaint on Monday morning against ‘Papor Yorni and party’ for the assault at the camp site.
Meanwhile, MLA PD Sona termed the incident really unfortunate and said whoever is at fault should be taken to task.
“This is not acceptable in a civilized society; this is not only bringing bad name to the place, but is against humanity,” Sona added.
Extending solidarity to the victims and their families, Sona requested the people not to flare up the situation, but help in finding a solution to this unfortunate incident.
