NAMSAI, March 24: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein today while chairing a review meeting on ‘Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCD-NER)’ interacted with the members of the Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) here at the DC’s Conference Hall to know their issues and challenges.
Exhorting the farmers to revive the varied indigenous species of crops and reiterating the need for promoting organic farming in the state, Mein advised them to consult the experts for enhancing production. While lauding the efforts and hard work put in by the state’s FPCs, he assured them help from state government’s end and adequate coverage through Central schemes. All FPCs undergoing MOVCD in Arunachal Pradesh may be considered for an additional two-year funding after proper discussion with the designated authority so that they don’t face shortage of funds for carrying out the certification process, the DCM assured.
Chowkham Organic Agro Producer Co. Ltd., an FPC undergoing organic certification under MOVCD for Khampti Lahi rice highlighted its progress with regards to organic cultivation, processing and marketing. Executive member of Sheel Biotech, the service provider of under MOVCD gave updates on C3 certification, marketing prospects and the challenges of the Glutinous Khampti Lahi rice variety. As organic certification funding is allotted only for three years, the service provider’s members suggested an extension of the funding timeline for two more years.
HoDs, CEO, NOSAAP and members of Chowkham Organic, Waisali Agro Producer Co Ltd and NOSAAP Producer Co. Ltd also gave their respective feedback on pressing issues and shared recommendations regarding the marketing needs of products.
Like other agriculture products, rice also faces marketing hiccups and the issue of lack of a proper marketing system that leads to lesser revenues was raised by the farmers during the interaction. DCM Media Cell
