Itanagar, Aug 28: The Department of Information and Public Relations, and Doordarshan Kendra, Itanagar in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, will be screening two short films on August 30 next at the Dorjee Khandu Convention Centre, Itanagar, wherein chief minister Pema Khandu, would grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The screening will also be attended by Minister IPR Bamang Felix, MLAs, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries and other senior officers of the state.
The two short films -- Vasco Da Gama and Rani Abbakka will be screened in two episodes. The episode Vasco Da Gama throws light on how a Portuguese explorer became the first European to discover sea route to India at Calicut on the Malabar Coast on 20 May, 1498 and expanded Portuguese trade of merchandise ideas and waged a prolonged war with the Indians.
And the episode, Rani Abbakka depicts the valor of a queen of Ullal who repulsed six attacks by the Portuguese for over four decades from 1525 to 1569. For her bravery she came to be known as Abhaya Rani (The Fearless Queen). She was also one of the earliest Indians to fight the colonial powers and is sometimes regarded as the “First Woman Freedom Fighter of India”.
India’s public service broadcaster Doordarshan is all set to telecast a mega historical serial named as “Swaraj-Bharat Ke Swatantrata Sangram Ki Samagra Gatha” on its “DD National channel”. 
‘Swaraj’ is a 75-episode mega show illustrating the glorious history of India’s freedom struggle from the 15th century onwards when Vasco-Da-Gama landed in India. This serial will showcase several aspects of Indian history featuring the lives and sacrifices of lesser known heroes of the freedom struggle. The serial, being presented in a docu-drama format, has been researched well by a team of leading historians.
