CHANGLANG, Jun 23: In separate operations wherein the Changlang Police, Assam Rifles and CRPF collaborated with each other, two over ground workers (OGWs) of the NSCN-IM were nabbed red-handed while extracting money from tea garden officials in Changlang district.
On June 21 last a joint team of Changlang Police and Assam Rifles apprehended one Baitu Youngja (51), a resident of Kongsa village under Namtok Circle from the Rangkatu tea garden area. He came to collect extortion money from the tea manager at the behest of the NSCN-IM self-styled area commander. In another incident on the following day, acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team of Changlang Police, 9 Assam Rifles and CRPF apprehended an OGW of the NSCN-IM who also came to collect extortion money from the same tea garden. He has been identified as Chakngam Kongkang (30), a resident of Phangsum village in Namtok Circle and while carrying an extortion note of self-styled area commander of the NSCN-IM, demanded Rs 2 lakh as extortion amount. A motorcycle and a mobile handset were seized from his possession.  
According to the district police, with these arrests, desperate attempts of the militant organization to carry out extortion activities in Changlang district have been foiled. SP Mihin Gambo informed that a criminal case has been registered at Changlang PS against the arrested duo and further investigation is on.
