NAHARLAGUN, May 8: Intensifying the efforts in containing the price rise of essential commodities during the current lockdown period, Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs on Friday conducted a series of surprise inspections in various parts of the state and booked a number of erring traders under the Legal Metrology Act 2009 and Package Commodities Rules 2011.
In Tezu, a team comprising Zonal Deputy Controller Minte Siga, Assistant Controller C.S. Singpho and police booked 3 traders at the Tezu Market for selling products at exorbitant prices, manipulation of MRPs etc. During inspection, traders of the area were warned of serious action if there are further violation of relevant provisions of the said Act and Rules.
In response to complaints received from the consumers of Capital Region, a Legal Metrology team of Papum Pare district and HQ office consisting of ACLMs Amrit Taba & Taba Tabin and LM Inspectors Debia Tana & Taw Tassar conducted surprise inspection at Prem Nagar, Model Village at Naharlagun and Karsinsa and booked 17 traders for violation of Packaged Commodities Rules 2011, mostly for overcharging of cold drinks. Alarmed with the increasing trend of overcharging of various consumer products, Assistant Controller Amrit Taba warned the violators of stern action if rules are flouted.
During the inspection, acting on the direction of the Capital DC the team also checked the trading licences of the traders from which it came to light that validity of a few licences had already elapsed.
